Little Black Dress Vodka Launch Party/ Speed Dating Event!

ABOVE Restaurant and Bar hosted a Little Black Dress Vodka launch party, which included a marathon speed-dating event on February 2, 2012 from 6PM to 10PM.

 The evening special event kicked off in the plush bar area, as guests socialized while they sipped Little Black Dress Vodka specials which included $5 martinis and $3 cocktails. The guests mingled and enjoyed lounge music.

 

At 7PM, singles were invited upstairs into ABOVE’s private party space for the start of the exclusive Marathon Speed Dating event hosted by New Jersey Young Professionals. Single men and woman ages 25 to 39 got the chance to socialize and go on 10 to 15 dates in 4-minute intervals. All guests had a great time Little Black Dress Vodka was the hit of the party.

Sushi!

Come to Above Restaurant and Bar located at 1 South Orange Ave, South Orange, NJ not only has a tasty Late Night Bar Menu which is available from 10pm to Midnight which serves delicious Lil’ Big macs and Lobster fritters for you lobster eating lovers! Make sure to try our delectable Chicken Quesadillas filled with mouth-watering jack and Cheddar mix, sour cream, and guacamole!

For those who love Sushi, make sure you make it a necessity to come out and grab a drink and try our house roll, which happens to be the favorite! The Above Roll, which has tuna and salmon with thinly peeled cucumber! Sounds delicious.

For those who love sushi, why don’t you try our roll called the Love Roll, which has Tuna, salmon, avocado cucumber roll topped with Fish Egg! The name speaks for itself truly because you will LOVE this roll!

Also, although its winter, why not warm yourself with the Tropicana Roll which is a crab roll topped with salmon and avocado. Just reading this description is making us hungry! All of our sushi is made by our top Chef Ja Yoon Whang.

Meet the Above Chef

 

Ever go out to eat and wonder who the mastermind behind your food is? At Above Restaurant and Bar your dishes are dreamed up and prepared by Chef Joseph Catalano.

 

A New Jersey native of Italian ancestry, Chef Catalano grew up in the kitchen and discovered his love for cooking at an early age. The passion for cooking runs in the Catalano family; Chef Joseph’s father was also a trained chef. Although his formal training is from the New York Restaurant School, Chef Catalano first learned to cook in his family’s kitchen under the direction of his parents. These early learning experiences were highly beneficial to Catalano’s eventual career.

 

Chef Joseph Catalano came to Above with 18 years of experience in luxurious restaurants including The Dining Room at the Short Hills Hilton and The Kobe Club in NYC. He was on the opening teams for several well known restaurants including The Kobe Club, The Jolly Hotel and also STK Restaurant in NYC. His dishes have been featured in magazines such as Food Arts magazine and have won numerous honors including a four-star rating from The Star-Ledger.

 

Chef Catalano has also dabbled in the ownership side of the restaurant business and has experience managing successful restaurants. Semolina Restaurant was the brain-child of Catalano and he owned and managed this restaurant for five years before deciding to return to being solely a chef. He is pleased to once again be able to focus his energy on creating and cooking amazing menus.

The Above Restaurant and Bar will be having a launch party for the new and delicious Little Black Dress Vodka! If you enjoy an appetizing drink, join us in the bar on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm for $3 Little Black Dress Drinks and $5 Little Black Dress Martinis!

Also, if you’re single and ready to mingle starting at 7pm on the third floor there will be a $5 Marathon Speed Dating (Pre-registration required). Come and join the excitement, don’t miss out on the fun! It is $5 per person online or $10 at the door (only if space is available). Single women should be 25-35 years old and the men should be 29-39 years old. What’s better than meeting a potential partner with delicious new vodka in your hand? The Spirit Of Giving

The true spirit of Christmas is the spirit of giving. Several local business in addition to Eden Marketplace are hosting toy drives including  Sparkhouse kids, The UPS store and the Fire station are all collecting toys.

At Eden Marketplace one employee, Phyllis Odom, who you might recognize as one of the faces behind out deli counter, took it a upon herself to organize a toy drive at Eden Marketplace. Phyllis felt very strongly about making a difference and wanted to have a big impact on family’s that can not afford an elaborate gifts for the holiday season.   Phyllis has been running toys drives in Newark area the past couple of years and wanted to bring the spirit of giving to Eden Marketplace. Over the past couple of years Phyllis has developed a direct relationship with the Newark YMCA, Project Solution and Harmony House and has asked those organizations and other underprivileged families to pick up the toys in the Eden Marketplace Parking lot. As of  today over 200 toys were donated! If you would still like to donate a toy it is not too late. Please drop your unwrapped toy in the marketed boxes in our floral department.  Happy Holidays!

What to do with left overs?

The big meal is over and now you need to figure out what do with your leftovers? Here are some of my plans for leftovers. Please add your comments and ideas!

Turkey Soup:

*Turkey Bones

*Med Onion ( Whole)

*1-2 garlic clove (whole)

*2 cups baby carrots

*1 white or sweet potato

*2 celery stalks diced

*3/4 cup barley

*Water to fill pot ¾ full

Simmer for 2.5 hours, remove bones from the soup and then let simmer for another :30 min. Enjoy!

 The Famous Leftovers Sandwich:

2 slices toasted Challah

Sliced turkey (cold or warm)

Cranberry sauce

Stuffing ( preferably warm)

Toast 2 slices of Challah (or your favorite type of bread) spread cranberry sauce on one or both sides of the bread.  Add a thin layer of stuffing then pile with turkey. Combine both pieces of bread. Cut your sandwich in half for easier eating and enjoy.
