The evening special event kicked off in the plush bar area, as guests socialized while they sipped Little Black Dress Vodka specials which included $5 martinis and $3 cocktails. The guests mingled and enjoyed lounge music.

At 7PM, singles were invited upstairs into ABOVE’s private party space for the start of the exclusive Marathon Speed Dating event hosted by New Jersey Young Professionals. Single men and woman ages 25 to 39 got the chance to socialize and go on 10 to 15 dates in 4-minute intervals. For those who love sushi, why don’t you try our roll called the Love Roll, which has Tuna, salmon, avocado cucumber roll topped with Fish Egg! The name speaks for itself truly because you will LOVE this roll!

Ever go out to eat and wonder who the mastermind behind your food is? At Above Restaurant and Bar your dishes are dreamed up and prepared by Chef Joseph Catalano.

A New Jersey native of Italian ancestry, Chef Catalano grew up in the kitchen and discovered his love for cooking at an early age. The passion for cooking runs in the Catalano family; Chef Joseph’s father was also a trained chef. Although his formal training is from the New York Restaurant School, Chef Catalano first learned to cook in his family’s kitchen under the direction of his parents. These early learning experiences were highly beneficial to Catalano’s eventual career.

Chef Joseph Catalano came to Above with 18 years of experience in luxurious restaurants including The Dining Room at the Short Hills Hilton and The Kobe Club in NYC. He was on the opening teams for several well known restaurants including The Kobe Club, The Jolly Hotel and also STK Restaurant in NYC. His dishes have been featured in magazines such as Food Arts magazine and have won numerous honors including a four-star rating from The Star-Ledger.

Chef Catalano has also dabbled in the ownership side of the restaurant business and has experience managing successful restaurants. Semolina Restaurant was the brain-child of Catalano and he owned and managed this restaurant for five years before deciding to return to being solely a chef. He is pleased to once again be able to focus his energy on creating and cooking amazing menus.

At Eden Marketplace one employee, Phyllis Odom, who you might recognize as one of the faces behind out deli counter, took it a upon herself to organize a toy drive at Eden Marketplace. Phyllis felt very strongly about making a difference and wanted to have a big impact on family’s that can not afford an elaborate gifts for the holiday season.   Phyllis has been running toys drives in Newark area the past couple of years and wanted to bring the spirit of giving to Eden Marketplace. Over the past couple of years Phyllis has developed a direct relationship with the Newark YMCA, Project Solution and Harmony House and has asked those organizations and other underprivileged families to pick up the toys in the Eden Marketplace Parking lot. As of  today over 200 toys were donated! If you would still like to donate a toy it is not too late. Please drop your unwrapped toy in the marketed boxes in our floral department.  Happy Holidays!
